Yesterday, my fellow Congressional Advocates and I met with Ms. Demetric Mercadel, District Director for to discuss the Credit for Caring Act. This legislation would create a new, non-refundable federal tax credit up to $5,000 for eligible family caregivers, who provide on average more than 30 hours of unpaid care per week (valued at nearly $350 billion in unpaid care per year). Dementia caregiving is mentally, physically, and financially taxing, and around 57% of caregivers report difficulty maintaining normal employment due to the demands of caring. This bipartisan Act would provide some much needed relief and offset some of the financial burden to those who provide selfless care for their loved ones.
Congressman Carter has always championed the fight against Alzheimer's, and we are so grateful for his continued support for Alzheimer's and dementia policies!
