Fall 2024 Cogressional Visits

Thank you to Ms. Demetric Mercadel from Congressman Carter’s team for meeting with our amazing advocates yesterday. We were excited to discuss the significant advancements Congress has made this week for BOLD, NAPA, and AAIA. Thank you Congressman Carter for your continued support in the fight to end Alzheimer’s.

Representatives from the Alzheimer's Association Louisiana Chapter and Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM) convened with congressional staff from U.S. Congressman Steve Scalise's office to advocate for crucial legislation in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.



During the meeting, advocates, including Holly Abbott, Jim PittmanKim Honore'-Keith M.Ed.India Pursell, and Treiveanna Jenkins, underscored the significance of bipartisan initiatives such as the NAPA Reauthorization Act (S. 133/H.R. 619) and the Alzheimer’s Accountability and Investment Act (S. 134/H.R. 620). These acts aim to extend vital programs and funding to address Alzheimer's research, care, and public health infrastructure.



Jim Pittman, Board Chair of the Alzheimer's Association Louisiana Chapter, shared personal experiences and urged Congressman Scalise's support for the NAPA Reauthorization Act, emphasizing its impact on families affected by Alzheimer's. Additionally, advocates emphasized the importance of the BOLD Reauthorization Act (S. 3775/H.R. 7218) and the AADAPT Act in enhancing early detection, diagnosis, and care for Alzheimer's patients, particularly in underserved communities.


The meeting concluded with discussions on local resources and upcoming awareness initiatives for constituents in District 01, underscoring the need for continued engagement and support from Congressman Scalise's office.
